The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ defense delivered a spectacular, turnover-laden performance, stifling the New Orleans Saints in a commanding 23-3 victory at Caesars Superdome on Sunday. The win pushes the Buccaneers’ record to 6-2.
The defensive unit was relentless from the start, not allowing a single touchdown and forcing multiple takeaways. Linebacker Anthony Nelson was the defensive star, notching a pick-six on a three-yard return in the second quarter, along with a forced fumble and a sack in the first half alone.
The Bucs defense totaled three first-half sacks and two fumble recoveries.
While the Saints’ defense managed a goal-line stand on a marathon Buccaneers’ drive, Nelson’s pick-six promptly put Tampa Bay up 7-0. Running back Sean Tucker added a one-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter after a 73-yard drive. Chase McLaughlin finished the scoring with three long field goals (55, 52, and 54 yards) in the second half.
Antoine Winfield Jr. later intercepted Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler before being replaced by Tyler Shough. Still, the Bucs defense continued its dominance, ensuring New Orleans’ only points came from a 48-yard field goal just before halftime.
Quarterback Baker Mayfield finished the day 15 of 24 for 152 yards.
