The Tampa Bay Lightning are set to kick off their second road back-to-back of the week with an Atlantic Division clash against the Detroit Red Wings tonight at Little Caesars Arena. The puck drops at 7:00 p.m. ET as the two teams meet for the first of four matchups in the 2025-26 season series.

The Red Wings enter the contest with a strong 3-1-0 record and a three-game winning streak (W3), having recently defeated Florida 4-1. Meanwhile, the Lightning are looking to bounce back from a 3-2 overtime loss to Washington and improve their 1-2-1 record.

Scoring Leaders and Offensive Threats

The Lightning’s top scorer early in the season is Brayden Point with 5 points (2 goals, 3 assists), closely followed by new acquisition Jake Guentzel (1 goal, 4 assists for 5 points). However, eyes will be on Nikita Kucherov tonight, who is the franchise’s all-time leading scorer against the Red Wings with 52 points (21 goals, 31 assists) in 40 games. Kucherov, currently sitting at 997 career points, needs just three more to reach the 1,000-point milestone. Additionally, Steven Stamkos (42 points) and Victor Hedman (41 points) also boast strong career numbers against Detroit.

For the Red Wings, forward Alex DeBrincat is off to a hot start, leading the team with 6 points (0 goals, 6 assists) in four games. He’s followed by Patrick Kane and captain Dylan Larkin, each with 5 points.

Both teams have shown offensive prowess early on, with the Lightning ranking third in the league on the power play at 30.0%, slightly ahead of Detroit’s 26.7%. The Red Wings have the edge in goal differential, scoring 14 goals for and allowing 11 against, compared to the Bolts’ 13 goals for and 16 against.

Goaltending and Defensive Stats

Tampa Bay will likely rely on veteran Andrei Vasilevskiy, who has historically dominated the Red Wings. Vasilevskiy is an impressive 16-5-1 in his career against Detroit with a stellar .929 save percentage and started all four games against them last season, posting a .932 save percentage. Back-up Jonas Johansson, if called upon, will be looking for his first win against the Red Wings as a Bolt.

On the defensive end, Lightning defenseman Erik Cernak has been a shot-blocking force, tied for second-most in the NHL with 15 blocked shots through four games. Both teams have respectable penalty kill units, with the Lightning at 87.5% and the Red Wings at 88.9%.

Historical and Home/Road Records

The Lightning hold a slim all-time advantage over Detroit with a 40-37-6 record, but they have struggled historically on the road in Detroit, posting a 16-22-3 record. Last season, the Bolts went 2-1-1 against the Red Wings. Tampa Bay enters tonight with a 0-2-0 road record this season, while Detroit is a strong 2-1-0 at home.

Tonight’s game marks the first of four between the rivals, with the series continuing on November 28th back in Detroit.
