TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa Bay residents should prepare for a significant temperature spike this week as afternoon highs climb toward the mid-90s.
According to the latest local forecast from the National Weather Service, the region will see mostly sunny skies this afternoon with a high near 89 degrees and light easterly winds.
However, the heat intensifies quickly starting Wednesday, which is expected to be the hottest day of the work week with a projected high of 94 degrees.
The dry stretch continues through Thursday with a high of 92 degrees and sunny conditions, though the air will get a bit more active. Forecasters expect west-southwest winds to pick up between 6 and 11 mph, with occasional gusts reaching up to 18 mph. Overnight lows throughout the week will remain relatively mild, hovering between 66 and 70 degrees.

Changes arrive just in time for the weekend as moisture levels rise across the Gulf Coast. Friday brings a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms developing after 2 p.m., even as temperatures stay high at 92 degrees.
This unsettled pattern persists into Saturday, which features a 20% chance of rain and potential thunderstorms in the afternoon coupled with wind gusts up to 18 mph.
By Sunday, the high is expected to hit 92 degrees again under partly sunny skies. Looking ahead to Monday, rain chances increase to 30% as a more consistent pattern of showers and thunderstorms moves into the area.
