TAMPA, Fla. – The heat builds immediately starting tonight, with mostly clear skies and an overnight low dropping to around 79 degrees as west winds turn calm. Tuesday is projected to bring the most oppressive conditions of the week, featuring completely sunny skies and a daytime high near 97 degrees.
Light west winds increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon will do little to cool things down, as moisture will drive heat index values as high as 105 degrees. Tuesday night will remain mostly clear with a low around 80 degrees.
Midweek introduces a familiar pattern of high temperatures paired with a regular chance of summer storms.
Both Wednesday and Thursday will see afternoon highs near 95 degrees. Wednesday’s heat index is forecast to peak at 103 degrees under mostly sunny skies, carrying a 30 percent chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms.
Thursday follows a similar track, with a 30 percent chance of rain developing mainly after 2 p.m. Those storms are expected to clear out before 8 p.m. Thursday night, leaving partly cloudy skies and a low around 78 degrees.
The upcoming weekend and the start of next week show an identical stretch of high heat and sporadic rain.
Friday will bring a 30 percent chance of storms after 2 p.m. with a high near 96 degrees. Saturday looks to be the driest day of the forecast period, with rain chances dipping to 20 percent in the afternoon while the temperature climbs back to 97 degrees.
By Sunday and next Monday, daytime highs will remain at 97 degrees, with a return to a 30 percent chance of afternoon showers. Nighttime lows throughout the weekend and into next week will remain in the high 70s or low 80s.
