TAMPA, Fla. – Drivers heading northbound on I-275 towards the Howard Frankland Bridge will encounter a significant detour Monday night, June 30, as all travel lanes will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, weather permitting.

The closure is essential for crews to continue the installation of overhead sign structures as part of the ongoing new southbound I-275 (Howard Frankland Bridge) bridge project, connecting Hillsborough and Pinellas counties.

Motorists will be detoured off the interstate at Gandy Boulevard (Exit 28). Electronic message boards and temporary signage will guide northbound I-275 travelers along the posted detour route, which includes Roosevelt Boulevard, Gandy Boulevard, and Dale Mabry Highway.

While the Howard Frankland Bridge’s northbound lanes will be closed, several other roadways will remain accessible and can serve as alternate routes. These include Roosevelt Boulevard, the Bayside Bridge, the Courtney Campbell Causeway, and Memorial Highway.

The Florida Department of Transportation advises motorists to allow for extra travel time during this period, as traffic congestion and delays are expected on the detour route and alternative roadways. This overnight closure is a critical step in the progress of the new southbound bridge, aiming to improve traffic flow and safety in the long term for commuters across Tampa Bay.
