TAMPA, Fla. – The National Weather Service issued a detailed daily outlook for the Tampa Bay region showing a steady upward march in temperatures and heat index values over the next several days.
Tuesday kicks off the stretch with a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, primarily concentrated between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Aside from the storms, skies will be mostly sunny with an afternoon high reaching near 94 degrees. However, the real story for commuters and outdoor workers will be the humidity, pushing heat index values up to 105 degrees.
Winds will remain light, shifting from calm to west at 5 to 7 mph after noon. Rain totals are anticipated to stay under a tenth of an inch, though localized downpours during thunderstorms could yield higher amounts. By Tuesday night, storm chances drop to 10 percent before 7 p.m., giving way to partly cloudy skies and a low near 80 degrees.
Mid-week brings even more intense heat. Wednesday’s forecast shows a slightly lower 30 percent chance of rain, mainly packed into a brief window between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Skies will stay mostly sunny and hot as the thermometer climbs to 96 degrees, driving the heat index up to a stifling 108 degrees. The night will mirror the previous evening, with a 10 percent storm chance before 7 p.m. and a low sitting right around 80 degrees.
Thursday is projected to be the clearest day of the week, with completely sunny and hot conditions and zero mention of daytime precipitation. Highs will push up to 97 degrees under calm winds that shift south at 6 mph in the afternoon. Thursday night will be mostly clear with a low of 80 degrees.
The heat peaks on Friday as the afternoon high hits 98 degrees. A minor 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms enters the picture after 2 p.m., accompanied by an east-southeast wind between 3 and 7 mph. Friday night brings a 10 percent chance of lingering showers before 8 p.m. before turning partly cloudy with a low of 80 degrees.
Heading into the weekend, rain chances rebound. Saturday features a 40 percent chance of afternoon thunderstorms after 2 p.m. and a high near 96 degrees.
The evening holds a 30 percent chance of storms before 8 p.m. and a low of 81 degrees. Sunday and Monday will level off slightly, both maintaining mostly sunny skies, a high near 94 degrees, and low temperatures sticking to 81 degrees. Rain chances will hover at 20 percent on Sunday and rise to 30 percent by Monday.
