TAMPA, Fla. – A persistent weather pattern is settling over the Tampa Bay area for the upcoming week, bringing a combination of intense summer heat and daily rounds of scattered showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures will consistently hover in the mid-90s, while high humidity levels are expected to push real-feel conditions into the triple digits.
Today kicks off the trend with increasing clouds and a high temperature near 95 degrees. Light afternoon winds will switch to the south-southwest at around 5 mph. The humidity will drive heat index values as high as 104 degrees. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible throughout the day, with precipitation chances peaking at 60% between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.
General rainfall totals should range between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, though localized areas could see higher amounts during direct thunderstorm impacts.
Tonight, storm chances drop to 30%, tapering off before 11 p.m. before a brief window of isolated activity reemerges after 5 a.m. Temperatures will drop to a low around 79 degrees under partly cloudy skies.
For Independence Day, the region faces a carbon-copy forecast. The morning starts mostly sunny with a high near 93 degrees, but moisture will again push the heat index up to 104 degrees. Winds will remain light, shifting to the west-southwest at 5 to 7 mph by afternoon.
Holiday outdoor plans could face interruptions, as a 60% chance of precipitation brings a likely round of showers and potential thunderstorms between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., transitioning to scattered storms later in the afternoon.
New rainfall amounts are expected to stay under a tenth of an inch outside of heavy downpours. Saturday night brings a 30% chance of rain before 8 p.m. and a secondary wave after 2 a.m., with a low around 79 degrees.
The remainder of the holiday weekend and early next week continues the cycle. Sunday and Monday will both see mostly sunny conditions with afternoon highs reaching 94 degrees and standard 50% chances of scattered showers and thunderstorms. Overnight lows will hold steady at 79 degrees on Sunday night and 80 degrees on Monday night, with rain chances dipping to 20% after dark.
As the week progresses into Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, daytime highs will remain pinned between 93 and 94 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Daily thunderstorm chances drop slightly but remain present at 40% each afternoon, primarily developing after 2 p.m. Evening conditions through mid-week will stay partly cloudy with overnight lows around 81 degrees and a lingering 30% chance of rain.
