TAMPA, Fla. – The intense, dry heat locking down the Tampa Bay area is about to turn up a notch. Day-to-day conditions across the region are tracking for a steady, blistering climb that will see afternoon temperatures peak in the mid-90s before traditional summer weather breaks the pattern.
Thursday kicks things off with partly sunny skies and an afternoon high near 88 degrees. East winds running 9 to 11 mph will bring a bit of air movement, featuring gusts that could touch 20 mph. Overnight, clouds roll in to blanket the area with a low dropping to around 67 degrees.
Heading into the weekend, the heat broadens its reach. Friday brings mostly sunny skies with a high hitting near 91 degrees, dropping to a mostly clear 70 degrees after sundown. Saturday bumps things up further with a high near 93 degrees under mostly sunny conditions, followed by a mostly cloudy night with a low around 72 degrees.
Sunday stands out as the absolute peak of the dry weekend stretch, remaining mostly sunny as temperatures march all the way up to a high near 94 degrees. Calm morning air will give way to a light 6 mph breeze out of the east by afternoon, while Sunday night settles into mostly cloudy territory with an overnight low around 74 degrees.
By Monday, the persistent hot streak hits its boiling point. The forecast calls for partly sunny and outright hot conditions pushing the afternoon high to 95 degrees. This extreme heat marks a turning point, triggering a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Those slight storm risks linger until about 2 a.m., with a projected overnight low of 75 degrees.
Relief from the intense baking arrives in the form of much-needed rain as a wet pattern establishes itself by midweek. Tuesday’s rain chances jump to 40 percent under partly sunny skies with a high near 92 degrees, dropping to a 30 percent chance of storms and a low of 74 degrees at night. Wednesday looks to bring the heaviest drenching, offering a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms alongside partly sunny conditions and a slightly tempered high near 91 degrees.
