TAMPA, FL. – Tampa Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire at the 10000 block of N. 14th St. at 1:48 am on Thursday.
Officials say Engine 24 was first on scene and found a single-story residential structure with smoke and flames showing from the south side of the structure.
The family was able to escape the home without injury, however, their cat did not,” said Vivian McIlrath Public Information Officer of Tampa Fire Rescue.
A primary and secondary search was completed with no occupants in the home.
“Crews were able to locate the cat, however, through rescue efforts, the cat gave way to its injuries,” said McIlrath.
Firefighters made an interior attack on the blaze. The fire was under control within 20 minutes. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians reported at the scene.
The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the family.
The Tampa Fire Rescue fire investigator was on the scene and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
