TAMPA, Fla. – A single-story home undergoing renovations was gutted by a massive fire in Tampa Monday. Tampa Fire Rescue crews rushed to the 700 block of E. Plymouth St. at 6:27 a.m. after reports of a structure fire.
Upon arrival, first responders found the house completely engulfed, with thick black smoke and heavy flames pouring from the structure.
The intensity of the blaze forced firefighters to quickly change their strategy. Instead of entering the building, they shifted to a defensive attack. This move was designed to wall off the flames, protecting the neighboring houses and keeping the fire from spreading down the block.
It took teams about 40 minutes to bring the inferno under control. Officials confirmed that the home was vacant at the time, and no civilians were injured during the incident.

However, the battle did take a small toll on the responding crews. One firefighter was transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for minor injuries, though no further details on their condition were released.
The property was left with significant damage, and the exact cause of what sparked the fire is still a mystery. The Tampa Fire Marshal’s Office has taken over the scene and is currently investigating the origin of the blaze.
