Tampa Man Charged With Felony After Fatal Utility Pole Collision

TAMPA, Fla. – A 41-year-old Tampa man faces felony charges following a single-vehicle accident that killed his passenger early Sunday morning.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that at 1:50 AM on May 10, 2026, a Hyundai Elantra was traveling southbound on 56th Street. North of Hillsborough Avenue, the driver lost control of the vehicle. The car rotated toward the outside shoulder, struck a traffic sign, and collided with a utility pole.

Both the driver and his passenger, a 37-year-old Tampa woman, sustained injuries in the crash. They were transported to a local hospital, where the woman later died from her injuries.

FHP troopers identified the driver as Cornelius Pulcher Taylor. Taylor has been charged with Driving with a Suspended License with Knowledge Involving a Death.
