HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A Friday night collision involving a pickup truck and two motorcycles left two people dead and two others hospitalized, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 9:10 p.m. on August 28 at the intersection of US-41 and 24th Avenue South.
Troopers reported that a 44-year-old Ruskin man was driving a Chevy Colorado westbound on 24th Avenue South. At the intersection, the pickup truck made a left turn onto US-41 directly into the path of a northbound Kawasaki motorcycle. The motorcycle, operated by a 31-year-old Tampa man with an 18-year-old Clearwater woman riding as a passenger, struck the pickup.
A second Kawasaki motorcycle, driven by a 20-year-old Tampa man, was traveling northbound behind the first bike. The rider noticed the crash ahead and steered hard to the right to avoid the truck, causing the motorcycle to overturn.
Emergency crews transported all four people to local hospitals. The 31-year-old operator of the first motorcycle and his 18-year-old passenger later died from their injuries, troopers said.
The driver of the Chevy Colorado and the operator of the second motorcycle sustained injuries in the crash.
Authorities have not released the names of anyone involved as the crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
