Man Taken into Custody After Deadly Altercation Outside Ybor City Bar
TAMPA, Fla. – A late-night dispute outside a Ybor City nightclub tragically escalated into a fatal shooting early Saturday morning, leaving one man dead and another injured. Tampa police have a suspect in custody, who they say was apprehended at the scene.
According to a preliminary investigation by the Tampa Police Department, the incident began shortly after 2:15 a.m. outside Flexx Sports Bar & Ultra Lounge on E 7th Avenue. A 22-year-old male, who had been removed from the establishment for disorderly conduct, allegedly returned with a gun. He then engaged in a verbal confrontation with another man, which quickly turned violent.

The victim, a 30-year-old male, was shot and transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead. A second man sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the altercation.
“Split-second decisions can have lifelong consequences, and in this case, a disagreement ended with the tragic loss of life in our community,” said Chief Lee Bercaw.
Officers were already in the area responding to the initial dispute just as the shots were fired. They immediately rushed to the scene to render aid and took the shooter into custody.
“This shooting happened with officers in plain view. This reckless behavior is not acceptable within our community,” Chief Bercaw added.
