TAMPA, Fla. — A new 60-bed emergency shelter dedicated to veterans experiencing homelessness will officially open in Tampa on Tuesday.
Hillsborough County partnered with the nonprofit St. Vincent de Paul CARES to establish the Hillsborough CARE Center, located at 1409 E. Seneca Ave. A public ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled at the facility for 10 a.m. on Aug. 4.
The project involved extensive renovations to transform existing campus buildings into a functional shelter space. Hillsborough County provided $4.4 million toward the property improvements using State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) program funds.
In addition to temporary shelter, the center will provide on-site support services intended to help residents stabilize and transition into permanent housing. The facility is equipped to serve veterans who are currently unhoused, transitioning out of homelessness, or living with disabilities.
St. Vincent de Paul CARES will manage operations at the center as part of its ongoing housing programs in the Tampa Bay area.
