HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A 48-year-old Tampa man died early Friday morning after being hit by a tractor-trailer while trying to walk across US-41, according to state troopers.
The collision happened around 3:15 a.m. north of 12th Avenue South. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a semi-truck driven by a 54-year-old Riverview man was heading south along the highway when the pedestrian walked into the road.
The pedestrian stepped directly into the truck’s path, troopers said. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not released the names of either the pedestrian or the driver. The Florida Highway Patrol did not immediately provide additional details regarding whether charges are pending or if road conditions played a role.
