TAMPA, Fla. – A Tampa Police Department employee was arrested Thursday for allegedly creating falsified law enforcement credentials for a family member.

Angela Antonic, 42, a Latent Print Assistant hired in 2017, faces charges of Official Misconduct, Falsifying Records, and Accessing a Computer or Electronic Device Without Authority.

The arrest followed an internal investigation, which revealed Antonic used her position to create two sets of TPD credentials for a family member who had recently resigned from the department. According to police, Antonic admitted to making the documents to assist the relative in securing a new job. The department has since recovered the falsified credentials.

Chief Lee Bercaw addressed the incident, calling it a “betrayal of the public trust.” He stated, “The conduct of this individual… is a rare exception and does not reflect the integrity and dedication of the hundreds of outstanding men and women who serve this community with honor every single day.”

The investigation has not indicated this was a recurring issue for Antonic, who had no prior disciplinary history. She has been suspended pending the outcome of an internal disciplinary review.

A booking photo was not yet available.
