Tampa Street Mural Painting Event Saturday, June 27

June 25, 2020

TAMPA Fla. – The City of Tampa is continuing its recent tradition of painting street murals, which typically impart a visual story or symbolism of Tampa history.  Beyond downtown, the program, called Art on the Block, also serves homes and neighborhoods who would like the serene eye appeal of colorful artwork with a message or theme.

Tampa Mayor, Jayne Castor, believes that murals improve traffic and pedestrian safety, provide a greater sense of livability in the area, revitalize public spaces and unify communities.

This Saturday, June 27, 2020, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., city-commissioned artists will produce new downtown, West Tampa, East Tampa, Tampa Heights and Westshore street murals with a spirit of unity and inclusiveness.  The artists are supported by numerous local organizations, from the Westshore Alliance and the Tampa Downtown Partnership, to the Tampa LGBT Chamber and Black Lives Matter.  The Saturday event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with two ribbon-cutting ceremonies downtown and in Tampa Heights at 5 p.m.  Contact Danni Jorgensen at 813-417-0218 for more information.
