Tampa Teen Behind Bars After Appalling Online Mass Shooting Threat Targets Schoolgirls

TAMPA, Fla. – An 18-year-old Tampa man is in custody after allegedly posting an online threat to carry out a mass shooting at a school.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested Oscar Nygard following a tip regarding a post made on the social media platform X. According to investigators, the post explicitly threatened a mass shooting directed at “little girls at a school,” with the user stating an intention to set “the record for most females killed in a single mass shooting.”

Detectives traced the digital footprint of the post directly to a residence in Tampa. Upon contacting Nygard at the home, deputies report that he admitted to creating and posting the messages from the account. Nygard was taken into custody without incident before any physical harm could occur.

The sheriff’s office emphasized the seriousness of digital threats in the wake of the arrest.

“Threats like this strike fear into our communities and will never be treated as a joke,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Thanks to a quick tip and the swift work of our deputies, this individual was identified and taken into custody before anyone could be harmed. If you make violent threats online, we will find you, and you will be held accountable.”

Nygard faces charges related to making written threats to conduct a mass shooting. The investigation remains active, and officials have not released information regarding any potential motives or access to weapons.
