SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – A 19-year-old man from Tampa died early Sunday morning following a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 75. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 5:18 AM near Milepost 321 in the southbound lanes in Sumter County.
The sequence of events began when a semi-truck tractor, operated by a 35-year-old man from Rhode Island, experienced mechanical failure. The driver pulled the tractor onto the emergency shoulder.
Shortly after, a Honda Accord traveling in the same direction entered the shoulder and struck the rear of the stopped truck.

Authorities confirmed the 19-year-old driver of the Honda sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi-truck was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Investigators have not yet determined why the Honda left the roadway, and the crash remains under investigation by state troopers.
