TAMPA, Fla. – Drivers in South Tampa may need to rethink their morning commute today. Starting at 9:00 AM, the Tampa Water Department officially blocked off all lanes of West Azeele Street. The closure spans the stretch between South Grady Avenue and South Church Avenue, and it is expected to stay in place for most of the workday.
City crews are currently on-site performing maintenance on the local water distribution system.
Officials have placed barricades and directional signs throughout the neighborhood. While the goal is to keep traffic moving, the department is urging residents to use extra caution when navigating the side streets near the work zone.
The city expects the project to wrap up and traffic to return to normal by 5:00 PM this evening. However, that timeline isn’t set in stone. Officials noted that work schedules depend entirely on the weather, and modifications to the site may be necessary as the repairs progress.
While the road is scheduled to reopen tonight, this might not be the last time crews are seen in the area.
The Water Department indicated they may need to return at a later date to finish additional tasks, though a specific schedule for that follow-up work has not yet been released.
