TAMPA, Fla. – Drivers heading through North Tampa should prepare for a bit of a headache starting Tuesday morning. The City of Tampa Water Department is officially shutting down the outside westbound lane of East Busch Boulevard, specifically the stretch between North 20th Street and North 19th Street.
The cones go out at 9:00 AM today, April 21, to give crews enough room to perform scheduled maintenance on the local water distribution system. While the city hasn’t detailed the exact nature of the repairs, the closure is expected to remain in place for several days.
If everything goes according to plan, the lane should reopen and traffic patterns ought to return to normal by 4:00 PM this Friday, April 24.
City officials have already deployed barricades and directional signage to help navigate drivers around the work zone.
However, with one less lane available on a major artery like Busch Boulevard, delays are a safe bet. Local authorities are asking everyone behind the wheel to stay alert and keep an eye out for workers in the roadway.
As is usually the case with outdoor utility work, the timeline isn’t set in stone. “Work schedules are contingent upon weather conditions,” the department noted in their official release, adding that “staff and crews of the Tampa Water Department appreciate everyone’s patience during this time.”
If you usually take this route for your morning or afternoon commute, you might want to give yourself an extra ten minutes or scout out a side street until the weekend.
