Tampa Traffic Alert: Daytime Lane Closure Hits Bruce B Downs Boulevard

TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa drivers heading south today will want to double-check their routes. Starting at 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, the outside southbound lane on Bruce B Downs Boulevard is shut down. The closure runs right between East Fowler Avenue and University Square Drive.

The Tampa Water Department closed the lane to finish up some surface restoration. Crews are working on the roadway following some earlier maintenance they had to do on the local water distribution system. Barricades and detour signs are already set up in the area to help guide cars safely around the work zone.

City officials are asking commuters to consider taking an alternate route today. If you do have to drive through the area, be sure to use a little extra caution. The exact setup of the lane closures might shift slightly while the crews are working.

Things should get back to normal just in time for the afternoon commute. The city expects the work to wrap up and regular traffic patterns to return by 4 p.m. today, assuming the weather holds out.

The staff and crews at the Tampa Water Department noted that they appreciate everyone’s patience while the work is being completed.
