TAMPA, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) completed a weekend closure ahead of schedule, reopening all lanes through the I-275/I-4 Downtown Tampa Interchange (DTI).
As of 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 5, all travel lanes through the complex interchange were officially back open, restoring full traffic flow much earlier than the scheduled Monday morning reopening.
The weekend closure was a crucial step in the ongoing I-275/I-4 DTI Safety and Operational Improvements project, which aims to modernize the outdated interchange.

This multi-year, multi-million-dollar effort is vital for improving driver safety, alleviating congestion for the nearly 200,000 vehicles that use the interchange daily, and enhancing its role as a key hurricane evacuation route.
Work during the weekend likely included significant operations such as the erection of steel girders for new ramps, which often necessitate complete traffic shutdowns for safety.
While this specific closure has ended early, the overall DTI project is still underway, with an anticipated completion date in early 2027. Drivers should continue to watch for future construction activities, including nightly lane and ramp closures, and remain vigilant in all designated construction areas.
