TAMPA, Fla. – Traffic patterns on Causeway Boulevard are shifting today as the Tampa Water Department kicks off a multi-day maintenance project. Starting at 9 a.m. this morning, March 23, crews have closed the westbound outside lane between South 82nd Street and South 86th Street.
The closure is required to allow city workers to perform essential repairs on the local water distribution system. While the work is underway, motorists should expect to see a series of barricades and directional signs designed to funnel traffic through the remaining open lanes.
City officials are urging drivers to keep a sharp eye out for workers and to exercise extra caution while navigating the construction zone. For those looking to avoid potential delays, seeking an alternate route is highly recommended.

The department also noted that the current setup isn’t set in stone, as lane closures may need to be modified as the technical work progresses.
Barring any unforeseen complications, the Tampa Water Department expects to reopen the lane and traffic to return to normal by 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 27. However, the department cautioned that this timeline is contingent on favorable weather.
Even after the initial project wraps up this week, crews may need to return to this specific stretch of Causeway Boulevard at a later date to finalize the repairs.
