TAMPA, Fla. — Drivers heading toward Tampa International Airport or State Road 60 on northbound Interstate 275 will soon run into a new traffic pattern.
Beginning Monday, August 10, at 10 p.m., the Exit 39 ramp to S.R. 60 West, S.R. 589 North, and Tampa International Airport is relocating roughly half a mile north of its current spot. The change is part of the ongoing Tampa Westshore Interchange Improvements project and is weather permitting.
To reach S.R. 60 West, S.R. 589 North, or the airport under the new setup, drivers will stay on northbound I-275 for an extra half-mile before pulling onto the temporary exit. That detour ramp connects directly back to the existing exit road.
The shift also brings overnight closures for drivers targeting Kennedy Boulevard and S.R. 60 East.
The northbound Exit 39 ramp to Kennedy Boulevard will shut down between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. on the following dates:
- Monday, August 10, through Wednesday, August 12
- Thursday, August 13 (backup night, if needed)
- Sunday, August 16, and Monday, August 17
During those overnight closures, drivers bound for Kennedy Boulevard must keep going north on I-275, take the Lois Avenue exit, head south on Lois Avenue, and turn west onto Kennedy Boulevard.
Outside of those overnight hours, Exit 39 access to Kennedy Boulevard and S.R. 60 East will open back up as normal.
Transportation officials expect this temporary exit pattern to stay in place through fall 2028, though bad weather or construction delays could tweak the timeline. Drivers are advised to build in extra travel time, watch for new road signs, and reduce speed through the construction zone.
