TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa drivers headed toward the east side of town late Wednesday night will need to adjust their GPS. Officials have announced that the southbound I-275 ramp leading to eastbound I-4 (Exit 45B) is scheduled to close starting at 10 p.m. on April 15.
The ramp will remain blocked until 5 a.m. Thursday, April 16, as long as the weather stays clear.
The closure is a necessary part of the ongoing Downtown Tampa Interchange Safety and Operational Improvements project. During the seven-hour window, construction crews will be performing overhead bridge work that requires the ramp to be completely clear of traffic.

To get around the closure, motorists will be diverted further south on I-275. The official detour instructs drivers to take Exit 45A toward Jefferson Street, stay to the left at the fork following signs for Downtown East, and then make a left onto Scott Street. From there, drivers can jump back onto the eastbound I-4 entrance ramp.
Electronic message boards and highway signs are already being positioned to guide people through the detour.
While the work is happening overnight to minimize the headache for commuters, transportation officials are urging anyone behind the wheel to watch out for crews working near the roadway.
