TAMPA, Fla. — Travelers heading to and from Tampa International Airport should prepare for a series of midnight detours starting this Sunday. Transportation officials have confirmed that several key ramps connecting Spruce Street, SR 60, and the northbound Veterans Expressway will be shutting down intermittently for paving work.

The closures are scheduled to run from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Sunday through Thursday nights. These disruptions will occur in three separate blocks: March 15–19, March 22–26, and March 29–April 2. While the work is necessary to widen westbound SR 60, the specific timing of the closures remains weather-dependent.

Drivers leaving the airport during these hours will be diverted. The primary detour requires motorists to take the Spruce Street ramp, head east to Westshore Boulevard, turn right onto Kennedy Boulevard, and then loop back north to reach the SR 60 and SR 589 interchanges.

Similarly, those driving west on Spruce Street will be redirected via Westshore and Kennedy Boulevards to bypass the construction zone.

For those on eastbound SR 60 trying to hop on the northbound Veterans Expressway, the route gets a bit more technical. Drivers will need to stay right toward the Spruce Street exit, perform a U-turn at the O’Brien Street traffic signal, and then head west to reach the northbound ramp.

Construction crews will be using message boards and temporary signs to guide traffic through the detours. Officials are urging drivers to slow down and stay sharp, noting that “motorists should use caution when driving through the work zone and remain alert for construction workers.”
