Tampa Traffic Alert: MacDill Avenue Water Work Extended Through Friday

TAMPA, Fla. – Drivers utilizing South MacDill Avenue will need to navigate around ongoing construction for an extra day.

The Tampa Water Department announced Thursday that the southbound lane of South MacDill Avenue will remain closed between Interbay Boulevard and West Wyoming Avenue. The extended closure is necessary because crews encountered more extensive repairs than originally anticipated during maintenance of the area’s water distribution system.

The daily lane closure is scheduled between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. City officials currently expect the repairs to wrap up and normal traffic patterns to resume by 4 p.m. on Friday, June 5. However, management noted that this timeline depends entirely on favorable weather conditions.

To keep traffic moving, the city has deployed barricades and flaggers to the construction zone. Drivers passing through the area are urged to use extra caution, as the traffic setup may change as the work progresses.

Regarding the ongoing delays, city officials stated, “The staff and crews of the Tampa Water Department appreciate everyone’s patience during this time.”
