TAMPA, Fla. – Drivers heading toward downtown Tampa this weekend should prepare for significant delays as a wave of high-profile events is set to pack the city from Friday, March 6, through Sunday, March 8. City officials warn that the influx of thousands of visitors will likely result in “congested streets and limited on-street parking availability.”

The heavy traffic begins Friday with a diverse lineup, including Disney on Ice performances at Benchmark International Arena at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., and a New York Yankees spring training game at Steinbrenner Field starting at 6:30 p.m. The Tampa Convention Center will also be at capacity, hosting both the Lightning City Gymnastics Gasparilla Classic from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and the National Believe, Build, Complete, Become Summit until 7:30 p.m.

Evening travelers should also note a 7:30 p.m. show at the Straz Center and the start of WineFest 2026 at the Tampa Theatre, which includes a closure of Franklin Street.

Saturday’s schedule remains just as dense. The She is Football 5k kicks off early at Raymond James Stadium at 7 a.m., followed by the Tampa Fine Art Show at Cotanchobee Park beginning at 10 a.m.

Disney on Ice adds an 11 a.m. matinee to its existing afternoon and evening shows, while the Straz Center hosts three separate performances throughout the day. The gymnastics classic continues its 16-hour run at the Convention Center, while WineFest resumes at 6 p.m.

By Sunday, the pace slows slightly but remains busy. The Gasparilla Classic concludes its final day at the Convention Center with events running until 10 p.m., and Disney on Ice wraps up with shows at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The Straz Center will hold three final performances between noon and 4 p.m.

To avoid the frustration of gridlock, officials suggest that residents and visitors “consider alternative transportation options.”

Recommendations include using the Free TECO Streetcar, DASH Service, HART buses, or renting e-scooters and bicycles.
