TAMPA, Fla. – Drivers traveling through downtown Tampa late at night should prepare for detours starting this weekend. The Florida Department of Transportation has announced a series of overnight closures for a critical interchange ramp connecting I-275 to I-4.
Beginning Sunday, December 14, the southbound I-275 ramp to eastbound I-4 (Exit 45B) will be closed nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The closures are scheduled to run through Thursday, December 18. Construction crews will return to close the ramp again during the same overnight hours on Sunday, December 21, and Monday, December 22.

The Detour Route
Motorists needing to access eastbound I-4 during these times will need to navigate around the work zone. The official detour is as follows:
- Continue south on I-275.
- Exit the interstate at Exit 45A (Jefferson Street).
- Keep right at the fork toward Downtown East.
- Turn left onto Scott Street.
- Re-enter the interstate using the eastbound I-4 entrance ramp.
Electronic message boards and advanced warning signs will be in place to guide drivers through the detour. Officials are urging motorists to slow down and stay alert for construction workers and pedestrians near the work zone.
The closures are necessary to allow crews to perform sound wall construction as part of the ongoing Downtown Tampa Interchange Safety and Operational Improvements project. All schedules are weather-permitting and subject to change.
