TAMPA, Fla. – If you usually take North Matanzas Avenue to get around West Tampa, you’ll need to find a new way to work for the next few days. Starting today, February 3, at 9:00 AM, the Tampa Water Department shut down all lanes on North Matanzas between West Cypress and West Lemon Streets.
Crews are currently on-site performing essential maintenance on the local water system, and the road is expected to stay closed until the end of the week.
The work is also spilling over onto West Cypress Street. Eastbound drivers will find the road blocked off between North Matanzas and North MacDill Avenue.

To keep things moving as smoothly as possible, the city has placed barricades and flaggers throughout the area to help guide people around the detours. Still, city officials are asking everyone to be extra careful and, if possible, just avoid this intersection entirely to dodge the extra traffic.
If the weather stays clear and everything goes according to plan, the Water Department expects to have all lanes reopened and traffic back to normal by 4:00 PM this Friday, February 6. Until then, keep an eye out for any adjustments to the lane closures as the project progresses.
