TAMPA, Fla. — Southbound traffic on North Boulevard is hitting a snag this week as city utility crews move in to repair critical infrastructure.

Starting at 9 a.m. today, the Tampa Water Department will close the southbound lane between West Humphrey Street and West Yukon Street. The closure is part of a scheduled maintenance project focusing on the area’s water distribution system.

To minimize the impact on local drivers, the city is implementing a “rolling” closure. The lane is scheduled to reopen at 4 p.m. today to accommodate the evening rush, before closing again at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning.

Travelers should expect barricades and flaggers to direct traffic around the work zone. While the road remains partially open, the Water Department is advising motorists to seek out alternate routes to avoid potential bottlenecks.

City officials noted that the timeline is dependent on the elements. While they anticipate completing the repairs and returning traffic to its normal pattern by 4 p.m. Friday, February 27, heavy rain or unexpected site conditions could delay that deadline.

Drivers are urged to use extra caution when passing through the construction zone and to keep an eye out for staff working near the roadway.
