TAMPA, Fla. – Drivers planning to navigate the I-4 and I-75 interchange this Thursday night might want to double-check their GPS. Transportation officials have announced a total closure of the ramp connecting westbound I-4 to southbound I-75, scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. on Thursday, April 16.
The shutdown is expected to last until 5 a.m. on Friday, April 17, provided the weather stays clear. This eight-hour window will allow maintenance crews to complete necessary work within the Hillsborough County corridor.
To get around the roadblock, motorists will be sent on a bit of a loop. The official detour requires drivers to continue westbound on I-4 until they reach Exit 7. From there, they must stay to the right at the fork to merge onto southbound US 301.

After that, drivers will need to hop back onto eastbound I-4 and follow it to Exit 9 to finally reach southbound I-75.
Crews will be deploying electronic message boards and traditional road signs to help guide people through the detour. While the work is happening overnight to minimize the headache for commuters, officials are urging everyone to slow down and stay sharp.
Drivers should keep a close eye out for construction workers moving near the lanes and be prepared for sudden shifts in traffic flow.
