TAMPA, Fla. – Late-night drivers in Tampa should prepare for a detour tonight as a major highway connection shuts down for essential maintenance.
Starting at 10 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, May 5, crews will close the ramp leading from westbound I-4 to northbound I-275. If the weather holds up, the ramp is expected to reopen by 5 a.m. Wednesday morning.
The closure is part of the ongoing Downtown Tampa Interchange (I-275/I-4) Safety and Operational Improvements project. To get around the work zone, the project team is directing motorists to continue west on I-4 and take Exit 45A for Downtown East/West.

From there, drivers must stay left at the fork toward Downtown East, head south on Jefferson Street, and then make a series of left turns onto Harrison Street and Orange Avenue to reach the northbound I-275 entrance ramp.
Construction officials are urging everyone behind the wheel to slow down and stay alert for workers and pedestrians near the interchange while the overnight maintenance is underway.
