TAMPA, Fla. – Drivers who usually zip down East Osborne Avenue will need to rewrite their morning commute plans starting today. All lanes on the stretch between North 42nd Street and North 40th Street have officially shut down as the Tampa Water Department moves in heavy equipment to handle maintenance on the area’s water distribution system.
The full road closure isn’t an all-night affair, but it will target peak daytime driving hours. Crews are blocking off the lanes from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. daily, effectively squeezing daytime travel through Friday.
City officials have already deployed a network of barricades and flaggers to the neighborhood to help drivers navigate around the active work zone. However, the department is actively warning locals that these lane setups could change on the fly as the infrastructure work progresses.
If everything goes according to plan, the city expects the machinery to clear out and traffic patterns to return to normal by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, June 12. Of course, that timeline assumes Florida’s unpredictable summer weather cooperates, as storm delays could easily push the project back.
Until the road reopens, anyone driving through the area should expect delays, exercise extra caution around roadside crews, or choose an alternate route entirely.
