TAMPA, Fla. – Drivers heading through Tampa should prepare for a week of slower commutes starting Tuesday morning. Beginning at 9:00 a.m. on March 24, city crews will shut down the outside northbound lane of South 50th Street. The closure stretches between South 16th Avenue and South 20th Avenue and is expected to remain in place until the end of the work week.
The Tampa Water Department is heading the project to perform essential maintenance on the local water distribution system. To help navigate the change, city workers have placed barricades and directional signs throughout the area.
While the goal is to keep traffic moving, officials are urging motorists to find alternate routes if possible and to exercise extra caution when driving near the work crews.

City representatives noted that the current setup isn’t set in stone, stating, “Modifications to lane closures may be necessary during the course of the work.”
If the weather stays clear, the department expects to wrap up the repairs and restore normal traffic flow by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 27.
However, the timeline remains contingent on local weather conditions. “The staff and crews of the Tampa Water Department appreciate everyone’s patience during this time,” the department shared in a statement regarding the project.
