TAMPA, Fla. – Drivers heading south through North Tampa this week should prepare for some delays during their daily commute. Starting at 9 a.m. today, the Tampa Water Department is shutting down a portion of North Florida Avenue to complete maintenance on the city’s water distribution system.
The work will block off the outside southbound lane between West Fletcher Avenue and West Prince Street. To help keep traffic moving and guide drivers safely around the construction zone, crews are placing barricades and directional signs throughout the area.
Local traffic officials are advising commuters to hunt for alternate routes to avoid getting stuck in backups. For those who do have to drive through the area, the city asks that you use extra caution and stay alert, noting that the lane configurations might shift around slightly as the maintenance work progresses.
If the weather cooperates, the Water Department expects to wrap up the project and return the street to its normal traffic patterns by 4 p.m. on Friday, June 19. Because outdoor maintenance relies heavily on clear skies, heavy rain or storms could alter that timeline.
