TAMPA, Fla. – Traffic will be stalled on North Himes Avenue as the Tampa Water Department works to fix a significant water main break. Both southbound lanes between West Cypress Street and West Cass Street were closed at 9 a.m. today and are expected to remain closed through the middle of the week.
Crews have set up barricades and signage to direct drivers around the area. The city is urging motorists to be careful near the work zone, as plans might change depending on what workers find underground. “Modifications may be necessary during the course of the work,” officials noted in a statement today.
If everything goes according to plan, the road should be back to normal by 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 26. However, the department warned that the timeline depends on the weather and that crews may need to return later for follow-up work.

“The staff and crews of the Tampa Water Department appreciate everyone’s patience during this time,” the department said. Drivers should expect delays or consider an alternate route until the repairs are finalized Thursday afternoon.
