TAMPA, Fla. – Motorists heading into Downtown Tampa from southbound I-275 will face nightly detours beginning tonight Sunday, July 13, as the Exit 45A ramp to Downtown East-West is scheduled for temporary closure.

The closures are necessary for ongoing overhead bridge work as part of the Downtown Tampa Interchange (I-275/I-4) Safety and Operational Improvements project.

The southbound I-275 ramp (Exit 45A), which provides access to Jefferson Street and Ashley Drive, will be closed nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., starting Sunday, July 13, and continuing through Thursday, July 17, weather permitting.

Southbound motorists will be directed to detour around the work zone. The recommended alternate route is to exit the interstate at Exit 46A, turn right onto Floribraska Avenue, then left onto Tampa Street. Drivers can then continue south on Tampa Street to access Scott Street, Laurel Street, and Cass Street.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will deploy advanced warning signs and electronic message boards to guide motorists through the affected area during these overnight closures. Drivers are urged to exercise caution while navigating the work zone and to remain alert for construction workers.

This temporary nighttime ramp closure is a critical component of the larger Downtown Tampa Interchange project, which aims to enhance safety and operational efficiency within the I-275/I-4 interchange. The overall project is anticipated to be completed in 2027.
