TAMPA, Fla. – Drivers heading through downtown Tampa late Thursday night need to prepare for a detour.
Southbound lanes on I-275 under the I-4 interchange will close starting at 10 p.m. on Thursday, December 18. Officials say the interstate will remain shut down in that section until 5 a.m. on Friday, December 19, weather permitting.
The closure is required to allow crews to perform overhead bridge work safely. It is part of the ongoing Safety and Operational Improvements project at the massive Downtown Tampa Interchange.

The Detour Route:
Anyone driving south on I-275 during the overnight hours will be forced to exit the interstate at Exit 46A. From there, the official detour directs traffic to:
- Turn right onto Floribraska Avenue.
- Turn left onto Tampa Street.
- Follow the signs to re-enter the interstate using the southbound I-275 entrance ramp.
Electronic message boards and advanced warning signs will be in place to guide drivers through the city streets. Motorists are urged to slow down and stay alert for construction workers and pedestrians while navigating the detour.
