TAMPA, Fla. – If your late-night plans involve driving through downtown Tampa this Sunday, you’ll need to allow for some extra time. Crews are scheduled to close the southbound travel lanes of I-275 right at the I-4 interchange.
The closure is set to begin at 10 p.m. on Sunday, December 7, and should lift by 5 a.m. on Monday, December 8, assuming the weather cooperates.
The shutdown is necessary for crews to handle overhead bridge work safely as part of the ongoing Safety and Operational Improvements project at the Downtown Tampa Interchange.

The Detour
Drivers won’t be able to pass under I-4 during these hours. Instead, all southbound traffic will be forced to exit the interstate at Exit 46A. The detour route is straightforward:
- Take a right onto Floribraska Avenue.
- Turn left onto Tampa Street.
- Follow Tampa Street south until you reach the southbound I-275 entrance ramp to rejoin the highway.
Electronic signs will be posted to help guide drivers through the detour, but officials are urging anyone on the road to stay alert for construction workers and pedestrians in the work zone.
