TAMPA, Fla. – If you usually take North Himes Avenue on your commute, you might want to plan for a little extra time in your drive this week. Starting at 9:00 a.m. this morning, the Tampa Water Department is closing the southbound lane to perform maintenance on the water lines.
The closure is specifically located between West Minnehaha Street and West Lambright Avenue. While the crews are out there working, you will see barricades blocking the lane. There will also be flaggers—workers with flags to direct traffic—helping cars get around the construction safely.

Officials are asking everyone to drive carefully when passing through the area. Road work can be a bit unpredictable, so the traffic setup might change slightly depending on what the crews find as they work.
As long as the weather stays clear and everything goes according to schedule, the lane should reopen by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, January 30. The Water Department staff said they appreciate everyone being patient while they fix the system and get traffic back to normal.
