TAMPA, Fla. – A water main break has triggered an immediate road closure in South Tampa, shutting down a stretch of South Himes Avenue while crews rush to make repairs.

As of Monday, January 12, all lanes on South Himes Avenue are blocked between West Kensington Avenue and West El Prado Boulevard. The Tampa Water Department has deployed barricades and signage to detour motorists around the active work zone.

Drivers who frequent the area should plan for delays throughout the week. City officials expect the repairs to take several days, with normal traffic patterns tentatively scheduled to resume by 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 15.

The timeline isn’t set in stone, however. Repair schedules often shift depending on weather conditions, and crews note they may need to return at a later date to finalize additional work on the line.

Motorists are urged to drive with caution near the closure and follow all posted detours. Updates will be issued if the repair schedule changes or if further work requires additional closures.
