TAMPA, Fla. – Drivers in South Tampa should prepare for some extra time behind the wheel this week. Starting today, February 9, 2026, a significant portion of West Swann Avenue has been completely shut down to through traffic.

The closure spans the blocks between South Audubon Avenue and South Gomez Avenue as crews from the Tampa Water Department work to fix a sudden water main break in the area.

City officials have already deployed a series of barricades and directional signs to help navigate motorists around the utility work. While the goal is to keep traffic moving as smoothly as possible, the department is urging everyone to use extra caution when traveling near the construction zone, as work crews will be operating close to the roadway.

As of now, the Tampa Water Department expects the repairs to be finished and normal traffic patterns to resume by 4 p.m. this coming Friday, February 13. However, that timeline isn’t set in stone.

City representatives noted that the schedule depends heavily on the weather, and unforeseen complications could require crews to return for more work at a later date.

If the project extends beyond Friday, the city promised to provide a follow-up update to the public. For now, residents are being asked for their patience as the city works to get the water lines back in order and the pavement cleared for driving.
