TAMPA, Fla. — Drivers should prepare for delays on Memorial Highway starting this morning as city crews rush to fix a fractured water pipe. The Tampa Water Department announced that the southbound lane between Audrey Lane and Mohr Road will close at 9 a.m. today, Tuesday, March 10.

To keep traffic moving around the dig site, the city has deployed a team of flaggers and set up safety barricades. Officials are urging anyone passing through the stretch to slow down and stay alert for workers near the roadway.

While the current plan focuses on the southbound side, the department noted that “modifications may be necessary during the course of the work,” meaning traffic patterns could shift as the repair progresses.

If everything goes according to plan, the road should be fully reopened and back to its usual flow by 5 p.m. this Friday, March 13. However, that timeline isn’t set in stone. Because the repair happens outdoors, the city cautioned that “work schedules are contingent upon weather conditions.”

Even after the initial fix is done, residents might see crews returning to the site later this month for finishing touches.

The department will provide an update if they need to shut down lanes again for the follow-up work.
