Tampa Traffic Alert: Water Main Break Shuts Down Stretch Of SoHo During Tuesday Rush

TAMPA, Fla. – Drivers heading through South Howard Avenue today might want to rethink their route. Starting at 9:00 a.m. this morning, the Tampa Water Department will close off the northbound lane between West Azeele Street and West Horatio Street.

The emergency closure is due to a water main break that requires immediate attention from city utility crews.

If you’re planning to cruise through this busy stretch of SoHo, expect some company in the form of orange barricades and flaggers. These crews are stationed along the block to help guide cars through the work zone.

City officials are urging everyone behind the wheel to stay alert and keep their speed down while passing the repair site, as workers will be close to the moving traffic.

The goal is to have the pipe fixed and the asphalt back in order by 4:00 p.m. today, February 24. However, that timeline isn’t set in stone. Like any outdoor repair, the schedule is at the mercy of the Florida weather and any complications the crew might find once they get underground.

For now, sticking to Bayshore Boulevard or South Willow Avenue might be your best bet to avoid the bottleneck.
