TAMPA, Fla. — A broken water main has forced an emergency road closure on South Himes Avenue that will disrupt South Tampa drivers through the end of the week.
Crews with the Tampa Water Department shut down all travel lanes along South Himes Avenue between West Horatio Avenue and West Dale Avenue at 9 a.m. Wednesday to begin excavation and repair work on the damaged pipe.
City workers have deployed barricades and detour signs throughout the neighborhood to direct drivers around the work zone. Officials are urging motorists to steer clear of the area, seek alternate routes, and exercise extra caution if traveling through nearby residential streets.
Repairs and road restoration are slated to wrap up by 4 p.m. on Friday, August 28, when normal traffic patterns should resume.
However, city officials noted that the timeline remains dependent on weather conditions, and lane configurations could shift as work progresses.
