Tampa Traffic Alert: Water Main Break Shuts Down Stretch Of West Morrison Ave

TAMPA, Fla. – A water main break has forced a total road closure on a busy stretch of West Morrison Avenue in Tampa, city officials announced Monday morning.

Starting at 9 a.m. today, May 18, all lanes of West Morrison Avenue between South Howard Avenue and South Moody Street will be blocked off to traffic. The Tampa Water Department will be on-site handling the repairs.

Motorists are strongly advised to seek alternate routes entirely and exercise extra caution if they must drive near the construction zone. Officials also noted that traffic plans could change as the repair work progresses.

Barring any unexpected delays, the city expects the repair work to wrap up and normal traffic patterns to resume by 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 21.

Because the project is highly weather-dependent, this timeline could shift. Furthermore, the Tampa Water Department indicated it might need to schedule additional follow-up work at a later date.
