Tampa Traffic Alert: Water Main Break Snarls North Himes Traffic Through Wednesday

TAMPA, Fla. – Drivers heading through West Tampa this morning are facing a fresh bottleneck as city crews rush to fix a ruptured water line.

Starting at 8:30 am today, May 4, the Tampa Water Department shut down the outside northbound lane of North Himes Avenue. The closure stretches from West Ohio Avenue up to West Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard.

The city has already deployed barricades and directional signs to help funnel traffic around the work zone, though officials are urging everyone behind the wheel to stay alert and use extra caution while passing the repair site.

Because these types of underground repairs can be unpredictable, the department noted that “modifications may be necessary during the course of the work.”

If everything stays on track and the weather holds up, the lane should reopen and return to normal traffic patterns by 4:30 pm on Wednesday, May 6. For now, commuters may want to seek an alternate route or build a few extra minutes into their morning drive to account for the merge.
