TAMPA, Fla. – Drivers in Tampa should look for delays starting Monday morning as repair crews move in to fix a ruptured water main on one of the city’s busiest stretches.
The Tampa Water Department announced that beginning at 9 a.m. on April 13, the outside westbound lane of West Kennedy Boulevard will be shut down between South Manhattan Avenue and North MacDill Avenue.
City officials have already deployed barricades and directional signs to help motorists navigate around the closure. While the goal is to keep traffic moving, the department warned that “modifications may be necessary during the course of the work,” depending on what crews find once they get underground.

The repair isn’t expected to be a quick fix. Current estimates suggest that the lane won’t reopen and normal traffic patterns won’t return until 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 16. However, that timeline is not set in stone, as work schedules remain contingent upon local weather conditions.
Even after the initial repair is finished, the city noted that the Tampa Water Department may need to return to the site at a later date to wrap up additional work.
If that happens, a new update will be issued to the public. For now, drivers are urged to exercise extra caution while passing through the work zone.
